An Andalusian shepherd boy named Santiago dreams of a treasure while in a ruined church. He talks to a gypsy fortune teller in the meaning of his recurring dream. The woman interprets it as a prophecy and tells the boy that she will discover a treasure in the Egyptian pyramids.After Santiago sets out, he meets the centurion of the old king, or King Salem, who tells him to sell his sheep in order to travel to Egypt and fulfill his personal legend. Early in his arrival in Africa, a man claims he can take Santiago to the pyramids, in exchange for stealing the money he earned from his herd. After these events, Santiago works for a crystal merchant to earn enough money to reach the pyramids.
Along the way, the boy meets an Englishman who came looking for an alchemist and continues his journey with his new companion. When they reach the green land in the middle of the desert, Santiago meets an Arab girl named Fatima and falls in love with her and proposes marriage to her. He promises to marry her after the trip is over and...
